Shane Borth (violin) and Ben Muñoz (cello) — met in 2006 on the teaching staff at Ottawa Suzuki String’s Sound Encounters. After occasional collaborations between Kansas City and Pittsburgh, they formally teamed up during a yearlong residency at Miami Beach’s Faena Hotel performing in the Quixotic cabaret “Samsara,” where they developed a signature sound that blends classical technique with rock attitude. Returning to Kansas City for further residencies, they continued evolving their energetic, elegant fusion of rock, pop, classical and world styles. Ekho Duo has released two EPs, presenting recognizable songs with a modern, ancient-instrument twist.
